Competition Report Richmond 18th October 2020
With the weather forecast indicating heavy set-in rain for the whole day, we still set out for Richmond for the second competition of October’s double-header. So dire were the predictions that we had cancellations from some competitors who faced a long drive, perhaps for nothing.
That said, on arrival, we were presented with magnificent conditions, with mild winds, and clouds which obligingly held off the rain until after we had completed 3 rounds for the 11 entrants on the day.
We were greeted by the local RAAFMAC guys, who doubled down to provide us with drinks all day, and a sausage sandwich lunch, served with meticulous COVID-save technique. It was only us clumsy pilots who spoilt their perfect scenario. Once again, a great shout-out to the club guys, giving us a taste of return to normality!
With no Sportsman entries, first up were Advanced, and the new battle for the bottom rung resumed from Saturday, albeit in much more enjoyable conditions.
F3A were up next, with the usual suspects duking it out. The standard of flying was good, and competition close, making judging quite challenging.
Expert brought up the rear, with local boy Ben Burrell joining the usual group.
Advanced was won by Alastair, with Jamey Bellicanta in second.
Expert was dominated by Ben Burrell, with Chris Tindall stepping up to take 2nd, and Gavin Fitz-Henry in 3rd.
Even Phil’s expert calling could not deflect Kahl Eckersley from taking the win in F3A, from Phil Spence with Joe Costa in 3rd.
Our final competition for 2020 will be the NSW Champs down at Fletchers’ Lane in Nowra on the 14th & 15th of November. This is always a tremendous venue, and Richard and team always put on a great weekend, so in the absence of any unexpected problems, let’s have a bumper turn-out and give the bum’s rush to this very challenging year.
